Teens At Work, Inc., established in 1991 as a 501c3 non-profit organization, aims to be a vital resource and support program for youth. Our mission is to equip and empower young individuals to become positive leaders within their homes, schools, and communities. The program focuses on enhancing social, emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. By providing life-skills training, social development, educational enrichment, values clarification, and experiential challenges, our goal is to make a lasting impact on the lives of the youth we serve. Over the years, we have positively influenced thousands of children, many of whom have completed their education, embarked on successful careers, and are now making their mark on the world.

Let’s get outdoors! Research has shown there is a direct correlation between participating in outdoor activities and improved mental, physical, and emotional health. In the past, children regularly engaged in outdoor activities which stimulated their creativity, problem-solving skills, and survival instincts in different environments. However, modern technology has caused many people to spend more time in front of screens, such as TV, phones, and iPads, leading them to miss out on the joys of the outdoors. When we are outside, we engage all of our senses, with our eyes acting as a rolling camera lens, capturing the sights and sounds of nature as we hike along trails and observe birds chirping, wild animals, beautiful flowers, and plants. This connection with nature externally enhances us internally. Participating in outdoor activities can also improve physical fitness as most activities engage our muscles, whether we are hiking, fishing, skiing, biking, skating, etc.
Embarking on a hike is a cost-effective outdoor pursuit that offers significant advantages to the individual. Strap on a sturdy pair of walking shoes, select a trail, and enjoy immersing yourself in nature where you’ll encounter waterfalls, diverse plant life, wildlife, and the melodic chirping of birds. As you traverse the landscape, your eyes will act as a lens, capturing indelible moments that will stay with you long after the hike is over.
The calming effect of water is beneficial for young individuals. Boating and sailing, while unconventional activities, often capture the hearts of youth who participate. Lessons learned from boating and sailing, such as navigation, parallel the ways in which young individuals learn to navigate their lives. Participants gain insights into boating components and learn boat and water safety practices.
By placing young people in unfamiliar settings, we provide them with the opportunity to grow and develop. Stepping outside of their comfort zones allows them to expand their horizons and challenge themselves in ways they never thought possible. By participating in both traditional and non-traditional activities, young individuals can discover a sense of excitement and adventure that motivates them to push their boundaries and explore new possibilities.
